This beautiful, if grainy performance of Ani's "Welcome To:" is my secret Christmas song, the antithesis to all the junk that doesn't ring true anymore. I play it once, by myself every Christmas. It's not sad, it's hopeful, and it gives allowance for a bit of self preservation in times when your brains are ready to run out of your ears. When the time is right for you to do the same, when you can steal a quiet moment away from the fray, have a listen.
welcome to:
welcome to
no amount of stoned makes you feel ok
welcome to
this year's alone - brought to you by christmas day
welcome to
the darkness into which prayin people pray
it's quiet here except for this song
now that everybody's gone
but hey
least you don't have to play along today
welcome to
something like elation when you first open your eyes
just cuz it means
that you musta finally got to sleep last night
welcome to
the precipice between groundlessness and flight
it's quiet here except for this song
now that everybody's gone
but hey
least you don't have to play along today
besides which
welcome to
taking the good stuff down off of the shelf
and welcome to
the art of conversation with yourself
welcome to
humming an unbroken tune
all day long
yes it's quiet here
but hey
least you don't have to play along today
Merry Christmas, pal. That's an order. A really good new year is also mandatory.
Cheers,
Crof

Well, since I always do what you tell me to, I guess I will endeavor to have a good new year. And I encourage you to do the same, and better yet, to stay in better communication with me so that I can track it.
Not for nothing, this year gone by has actually been a really good year...no red letters or anything but a fecund pink at least.
